Elgeyo Marakwet: Police launch manhunt for livestock thieves

Police in Marakwet West have launched a manhunt for cattle rustlers who raided a village and made away with 26 cows.

In a report seen by K24 Digital filed at Marakwet West Police Station, the four locals complained that they had lost their cows on Sunday to armed thieves.

Among the victims were; Julius Komen who lost 6 cows, Joel Chemuta lost 7 cows, Edward Kosgey (10 cows) and Hosea Kimutai Bowen (6 cows).

“They reported that around 1 AM at Kapchemuta Village a group of about 20 suspected Pokot raiders armed with firearms fired towards the four and made away with the cattle,” the report read in part.

Police officers on patrol from Chesuman Police Station rushed to the scene to no avail.

Meanwhile, police officers in Elgeyo Marakwet are in pursuit of suspected cattle rustlers who attacked St Benedicts Arror Girls.

In an amateur video that has gone viral on social media, the girls were captured taking cover under dining halls for their safety.

No official statement has been made by police over the incident.
