Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have made a major breakthrough in the search of National Land Commission Acting Communications Director Jennifer Wambua’s murder suspects.

In a statement shared on their social media pages, Peter Mwangi Njenga alias Ole Sankale has been identified as the prime suspect in the murder that shocked the nation.

“Peter Mwangi Njenga alias Ole Sankale has been identified as the main suspect, among others at large in the heinous murder. The detectives through criminal intelligence first forensically placed the suspect at the scene of the crime,” the DCI statement read in part.

According to DCI, they managed to establish eyewitnesses who saw the suspect with the deceased the last time she was seen alive.

A further search at the scene of the crime led to the discovery of crucial exhibits that underwent forensic examinations and the results showed a connection to the suspect.

“Following detailed forensic and intelligence-led investigations, detectives established that the suspect had indeed interacted and spent quite some time with the deceased at the location where the body was later discovered,” the statement added.

The scene of the crime was also established as an area often visited by pilgrims for spiritual purposes.

DCI detectives believe the suspect ambushed the deceased as she prayed before and sexually assaulted and strangled her to death.

Further investigation on the suspect, in criminal data systems, led to the discovery that he is a jailbird who has been involved in similar crimes where he previously sexually abused victims and murdered them.

Both the Principal Criminal Registrar and Prison records where the suspect served jail concurred, says DCI.

“Detectives were able to establish similar crimes committed in replica signature style and manner of subjection to torture and rape.

“Other reported cases of the same nature committed by the same suspect and in particular within the same vicinity where he committed the crime were also found,” DCI revealed

Detectives discovered that in 1996, he was charged with stealing and was further charged, three times, with the offences of robbery with violence and rape.

On January 15, 2003, he was convicted and sentenced to death at Kibera Senior Resident Magistrate Court, says DCI.

Detectives are unravelling the puzzle of how he escaped jail.
