Former KTN presenter Esther Arunga has pleaded guilty to trying to cover up the killing of her son in Australia five years ago.
The Australian court in Brisbane was told that the news anchor tried to divert attention away from her husband, Mr Quincy Timberlake, when police investigated the death of her three-year-old son Sinclair, according to ABC News.
Australian prosecutor Danny Boyle told the court that the boy died of injuries that were not “accidental.”
Mr. Boyle said that Sinclair’s abdominal injuries resulted from “punching or stamping.”
Because of shielding her husband, the prosecution contended that Ms Arunga delayed Mr. Timberlake’s arrest.
It was Ms Arunga who called the police hotline but only told the police that her son fell down the stairs.
The prosecutor told the court that Ms Arunga only confessed what happened in her house 26 days after her son’s death.
She revealed that her husband claimed that Sinclair had demons in his stomach and punched minor’s abdomen to exorcise the evil spirits.
According to ABC News, Ms Arunga told police her husband “was sitting on my son, he was sitting on his stomach”.
After punching the boy, Mr Timberlake threw the boy against the wall.
The court ruled that Ms Arunga was not involved in harming her child but was guilty of misleading the police.
The court will sentence her on Thursday.
