Political drama and intrigues in Ford Kenya continued on Tuesday as Moses Wetangula moved to effect party leadership changes to kick out rebels who purported to oust him.

Wetangula’s camp led by Secretary-General Chris Wamalwa and lawyer Benilito Milimo visited the Registrar of Political Parties offices to file party leadership changes.

Accompanied by several members of Parliament, the Wetangula camp filed the changes to be effected immediately confirming the Bungoma senator as the bona fie party leader and Dr. Wamalwa as party secretary-general.

Over the weekend, Ford-Kenya’s National Executive Council convened a meeting in which they resolved to eject Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula as the party leader.

The officials replaced the Bungoma Senator with Kanduyi MP Wamunyinyi as interim party leader but Wetangula quickly fired back terming their meeting unlawful.

The party intrigues also quickly led to accusations of political interference after Amani National Congress leader, Musalia Mudavadi, accused Orange Democratic Movement leader, Raila Odinga, of being behind Wetangula’s troubles.

But ODM party officials distanced their leader from the Ford Kenya infighting, rudely urging Mudavadi to mind his business and to reorganize his party, which they said lacks internal democracy as it has not held elections in the recent past.

Why kicked out

The party’s NEC on Sunday, May 31, said it resolved to eject Wetangula over alleged gross misconduct.

While addressing the press after delegates meeting, Ford-Kenya Secretary-General Eseli Simuyi said the party had lost its ideals under Wetangula’s leadership.

The party officials also accused Wetangula of failing to provide leadership, especially in reconciling warring members and champion Ford-Kenya’s campaign to unite the country following General Election loss.
