Three MPs in Waiguru’s backyard ditch Tanga Tanga camp, vow allegiance to Uhuru

Deputy President William Ruto on Wednesday suffered yet another blow after three MPs from Kirinyaga County decamped and joined President Uhuru Kenyatta’s camp.

The three: Gichimu Githinji (Gichugu), John Wambugu (Kirinyaga Central) and Mwea’s Kabinga Wachira openly declared their allegiance to Uhuru and distanced themselves from the Tanga Tanga brigade associated with Ruto.

“Today we want to publicly declare our support for the Head of State and his government, we were elected to support his agenda in Parliament. We don’t want to be referred to as Tanga Tanga members again,” said Kabinga.

Speaking in the presence of Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho and four other of his colleagues, the three said they made the decision in order to attract development into their constituencies.

The MPS also revealed that they would attend the Jubilee Party’s parliamentary group meeting convened by President Uhuru Kenyatta and which is scheduled for next Tuesday.

Kibicho was in the county to tour development projects initiated by the national government including the construction of police stations and a stadium.

Kabinga also said they supported the ongoing purge in House leadership which saw former Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen, Deputy Speaker Kithure Kindiki and Majority Whip Susan Kihika kicked out from their seats.

Blind support Kibicho said he would continue championing Uhuru’s agenda and accused some local residents of blindly supporting Ruto.

“I was given work by the President to defend him and his agenda. I will not shy away from doing my work. I want to tell the people of Kirinyaga county not to follow some people blindly, “ said Kibicho.

Conspicuously missing in the entourage was Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru who has been at loggerheads with Kibicho.

Waiguru has accused Kibicho of sponsoring an impeachment motion against her in the county assembly.

However, Kirinyaga County Assembly Majority Leader Kamau Murango and several MCAs attended the meeting at Wanguru Stadium.

Kirinyaga senator Charles Kibiru said he would continue to work with the government of the day and urged other elected leaders to follow suit.

“I have been in the front line supporting the President and his government since I was elected in the Senate and will continue championing his agenda in and out of Senate,” he said.

The trio appealed to Uhuru to support Kibiru for the now vacant seat of Senate Deputy Speaker.
