The manager of popular Thika Road nightclub, Memphis, was arrested in the wee hours of Friday morning in a raid, which resulted in police confiscating 28 pots of the banned shisha product and suspected illicit drugs.
The sale and consumption of shisha was banned by the Kenyan Government in December 2017.
Eliud Gitonga was arrested alongside Erick Maina, who is an employee at the nightspot.
The two are being detained at the Kasarani Police Station awaiting arraignment on Monday, July 8.
Police said they acted on a tip-off by residents, who complained that the entertainment joint has been converted into a hub of criminal activities, including illicit drugs trade and robbery.
Suspected illegal drugs were confiscated at Memphis Club early Friday.
Samples of the substances were taken by the anti-narcotics officers for testing.
Kasarani DCIO, Meme Mwenda, confirmed the incident.
In early June this year, Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip and Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s daughter, Saumu Mbuvi, were attacked at the same facility by ‘unruly’ revelers, resulting in their hospitalisation.
