The Late Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore asked his best friends to ensure they look after his wife after he dies.
Collymore’s close friend, Patrick Quarcoo, who is a Ghanaian Kenya-based serial entrepreneur, revealed that they met three days to Collymore’s death, when he made that plea.
It was during that meeting, which brought together the Safaricom chief’s closest friends, including Quarcoo, politician Peter Kenneth, Scangroup CEO Bharat Thakrar, KCB CEO Joshua Oigara, Standard Chartered Bank MD in Lagos Lamin Majang, and Citizen TV host Jeff Koinange, that Collymore broke news that he had at most three days on earth.
Collymore’s buddies – “The Boys” or “Boys’ Club” as they call themselves – then asked him what he wished they could do for him.
“He (Collymore) told us to stay together and stand by his wife Wambui Kamiru-Collymore,” Quarcoo said while speaking at the All Saints Cathedral on Thursday, July 4 during Bob Collymore’s memorial service.
Quarcoo further said that Collymore “hoped there is life after death” so that he can come back as “ghosts” to watch over his 37-year-old wife and children.
“For Wambui and the kids, you gave Bob Collymore a new purpose in life,” said Quarcoo.
The Radio Africa Group founder and CEO says “The Boys” will meet on July 19 to celebrate Bob’s life.
Safaricom Board Chairman, Nicholas Ng’ang’a, in his speech, vowed to continue supporting Bob Collymore’s family.
“To Wambui, we stand with you. We [as Safaricom Board] will continue to support you because we are family,” said Ng’ang’a.
Bob Collymore succumbed to Leukemia — a condition he spiritedly battled for two years — on Monday, July 1 at his Nairobi home.
The Late telecoms giant chief, who died aged 61, was cremated at Kariokor Crematorium on Tuesday, July 2.
Collymore is survived by a wife and four children.
