The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has distanced itself from widely circulated social media posts claiming that Lugulu Girls’ High School’s withheld KCSE results have been released.
On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, social media platforms lit up with reports that the prestigious Bungoma-based national school had received its results, boasting an impressive mean grade of 10.2265 and a 100 per cent transition rate to higher learning institutions.
However, KNEC quickly moved to dispel the claims.
In a statement shared on their official social media accounts on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, the council labeled the viral images and posts as “FAKE” and urged the public to verify such information only through official channels.
Lingering uncertainty
Lugulu Girls’ High School remains one of five schools whose KCSE results are yet to be released, leaving parents, students, and educators grappling with uncertainty.
Other affected schools include St Peter’s Abwao Secondary School in Migori County, Mama Malia Academy in Kitui County, Kipsingei Mixed Secondary School in Bomet County, and Katilu Boys High School in Turkana County.
The storm of speculation began on January 9, 2024, when the KCSE results were officially released. While other top-performing schools celebrated their success, Lugulu Girls was left reeling after discovering that their results had been withheld without prior warning.
School’s assurances
Amid growing anxiety, the school’s administration stepped in on January 10, 2025, to reassure parents and students.
In an official communication, the administration acknowledged the withheld results and confirmed that they had initiated an appeal process with KNEC.
“Dear parent/guardian, we are aware that your child has not yet received the examination results. Please rest assured that the matter is being addressed, and the results will be made available to you in due time,” the message read.
Political intervention
Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa also waded into the matter, dismissing rumors that the results had been canceled.
Speaking on Saturday, January 11, 2025, Barasa revealed that he had engaged Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, who clarified that the results were undergoing further verification.
“The results were not canceled; they were withheld for additional scrutiny,” Barasa stated.
He assured parents and students that he would follow up on the issue and expressed confidence that the results would soon be released.
Combating misinformation
Accompanying their statement, KNEC urged the public to disregard unverified posts and promised to provide timely updates on the status of withheld results.
The unresolved status of their KCSE results has sparked widespread interest and speculation, with many eagerly awaiting official communication from KNEC.
