Coronavirus: Woman quarantined in Nanyuki to be discharged on Thursday

The person quarantined in Nanyuki hospital travelled to Kenya to visit terminally ill kin who is admitted at the same medical facility.

A passenger who flew in the same plane with the woman who was diagnosed with the first case of COVID-19 in the country is self-quarantined in Nanyuki Cottage Hospital, Laikipia County.

Laikipia Health minister, Dr. Lenai Kamario, said the person will be quarantined until Thursday, March 19, when the required 14 days will lapse.

Dr. Kamario said they got the information on Friday that a case of the contact with the first index case who had visited Cottage Hospital but he had not shown any sign and symptoms of COVID-19.

The Health minister assured Laikipia residents that the quarantined person is in a stable condition.

The person travelled to Kenya to visit a terminally ill relative who is admitted to the same hospital.

Dr. Kamaria outlined a raft of measures that the county government has put in place to help residents protect themselves from contracting coronavirus.

They include setting aside quarantine centers that have a total capacity of 53 beds in 10 health facilities, training health managers, laboratory technologists and medical officers.

Dr. Kamario noted that the pandemic came at the height of preparation for its first Universal Health Care conference next week, an event that has been postponed.
