Gatundu South Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Gabriel Kagombe has explained why Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua should be stripped of his role in the tea and coffee sector.
Speaking during the Milele radio breakfast show, on Thursday, September 19, 2024, Kagombe, accused the deputy president of being incompetent adding that he has failed the tea, coffee and milk farmers.
Additionally, Kagombe disclosed that the MPs will have a sit-down and discuss the matter adding that they will advise President William Ruto to either assign someone else to be in charge of the sector or find other solutions that will be beneficial to the farmers.
“What i will tell wakulima wa bidha hizo tatu (tea, coffee and milk) ya kwamba sisi hapo bungeni tumesikia kilio chao na kwa sababu tumerudi kutoka recess tutaketi na tutatafuta suluhu either advise rais amwondole hizo mamlaka hayo ya bidha hizo ziondoke mikononi mwake zipewe mtu anaweza iyo kazi ama tukisha keti pale tutatafuta suluhu,”MP Kagombe said.
“Mimi ambayo nataka kusema ni kwamba ningemwomba rais kwa kunyenyekea , mimi kama mkulima haswa wa maziwa na majani chai mimi najua kilio nilicho nayo ndio kilio cha mkulima wa kahawa pia ningemwomba atuondole yule aliyetupatia yule principle assistant wake kwa sababu kwa kweli hatujaona faida yoyote kwa uwongozi wake katika industry hiyo.“
Kagombe on Gachagua’s task
Kagombe further urged Gachagua to look for a favourable market for tea and stop the excuses since it is his duty to do so.
He added that if he (Gachagua) feels overwhelmed by his role in the tea sector he should tell Ruto to assign someone else who is capable.
“Majani chai iliyokwama pale Mombasa ilikuwa kazi ya deputy president kuhakikisha ya kwamba imetolewa. We do not want excusses atafute soko kwa sababu iyo ndio kazi ya serikali sio kwanza kuingililia katika mambo madogo,”he added.
“Deputy president afanyekazi kama hawezi asimame aseme kazi imemushinda na arudishe iyo kazi kwa mwenye alimpatia tutafute mtu mwengine anaweza kuifanya.”
