The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced traffic disruption on a section of Mombasa Road.
In a notice issued late on Friday, September 13, 2024, KeNHA indicated that a section of the road near Syokimau Railway Station will experience disruption along the Nairobi-bound lanes.
According to the highway authority, the disruption is scheduled to commence on Friday, September 20, 2024, and run till Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Syokimau Railway Station will experience traffic disruption along the Nairobi-bound lanes from Friday, September 20, 2024, to Tuesday, October 22, 2024,” the notice read in part.
Reasons for disruption
Motorists using the road to access Nairobi and other sections within the city will be compelled to prepare accordingly for the 32 days as KeNHA will be working on that section near Syokimau Railway Station to erect a mid-span footbridge foundation.
The construction is also meant to allow for the realignment of Mombasa Road along that specific area.
“This is to allow for realignment of the road and construction of a mid-span footbridge foundation at the median between the Nairobi bound lanes and the adjacent Nairobi Expressway fence,” KeNHA explained.
During that construction phase, KeNHA assured the road users that police and traffic marshals would be on site to help them manoeuvre the above-mentioned area.
The authority, however, appealed to the motorists to follow the traffic management plan to avoid a huge traffic buildup.
“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan below and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” the notice added.
This comes days after KeNHA announced another traffic flow disruption following the temporary closure of the Haile Selassie roundabout for a month and a half.
In a notice dated Wednesday, August 28, 2024, the highways authority announced that the road will remain closed from Saturday, August 31, 2024, to Tuesday, October 15, 2024, to facilitate some planned construction works at the site.
“Traffic disruption is due to scheduled road works for construction of a pedestrian underpass at the section,” the notice detailed.
KeNHA, however, provided entry and exit routes for the motorists while at the same time encouraging users to cooperate with the traffic officers who will be deployed to the site.
“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on the site,” it added.
