Comedian Eric Omondi, who has since turned into an activist, has urged Kenyans to start dreaming of a new country.

This is after a woman on Sunday, August 11, 2024, sent him a text message requesting for Ksh80 to help her buy sanitary towels for her daughter.

Eric Omondi on misplaced priorities

The comedian took to his official social media accounts and shared the screenshot of the text message, in a move aimed at showing how the country’s priorities have been misplaced.

“Hi Eric. Kindly help me out with 80/- I buy a paket of pads for my daughter. It is her first time and it has caught me of guard, I gave her the spare I usually put in my bag. Please,” the woman’s message reads.

While reacting to the woman’s request, Omondi said that her situation is a perfect example of the current state of the nation.

Eric Omondi’s call for new Kenya

The comedian stated that it is a high time Kenyans started thinking of a new country where basic and natural requirements such as sanitary pads should be free, and not taxed.

He says that he had sent the woman some money, but with a heavy heart, and wondered how the country’s priorities are upside down.

“This is the Kenya we live in. I have sent this woman money but with a very heavy heart. This perfectly describes the state of our nation. We must begin to dream of a new Kenya. A Kenya where basic natural requirements like sanitary pads are essentially free, not taxed. Our priorities are upside down,” Omondi stated.

Eric Omondi’s charity works

Eric Omondi has been carrying out charity works through an initiative dubbed Sisi Kwa Sisi, which he has been using to raise funds through contributions made by Kenyans.

He has since launched a campaign to reconstruct a perilous bridge over River Waseges in Baringo County. This is after a video of the dangerous bridge made of three logs of wood went viral.

The activist first highlighted the dangerous condition of the bridge by posting several photos showing women crawling across it to reach the other side.

He requested specific information about the bridge’s location.

In February 2024, Omondi helped build a dangerous bridge in a village in Kisii County that gained attention after a video surfaced showing a small girl, Shirleen Kemunto bravely crossing over it.

Taking to Instagram to share the exciting news with his fans, the comedian posted a video showcasing himself and the young girl walking over the newly upgraded bridge.
