Lands Cabinet Secretary nominee Alice Wahome has highlighted her urgent need for employment.
Wahome who appeared for her vetting before the National Assembly Committee on Thursday, August 1, 2024, urged them to consider her state of joblessness, a situation she has described as unprecedented in her long career.
She disclosed that since 1985, she has never been unemployed until recently when she was dismissed from the same position by President William Ruto.
“I am jobless and I need the job. Since 1985 this is one unique moment that I am jobless,” Wahome revealed.
Wahome is worth Ksh327 million
Earlier, Wahome disclosed that her net worth stands at Ksh327 million, up from Ksh218 million in her previous vetting in October 2022.
“My net worth, mine and my husband’s, is Ksh327 million. It was slightly less when you last vetted me, it was Ksh218 million,” Wahome disclosed during the session.
“It is the properties that have increased in terms of appreciation in value. One tenant was not paying my family rent and they paid about Ksh14 million sometime in March,” she added.
Wahome, who previously held the position before has been renominated as part of President William Ruto’s newly reconstituted cabinet.
During her vetting in October 2022, she disclosed that her assets included family properties jointly owned by her husband.
She informed the committee that her income sources at the time consisted of her salary as an MP, which she received until September, and a fuel allowance of Ksh100,000 from her law firm.
“And from these properties, some of them are in my name, I get about Ksh500,000 a month,” she mentioned.
The former Kandara MP also revealed that she had been practising law at the Wahome and Akedi Advocates firm in her spare time, which she noted was limited.
