Ugandan popstar turned politician Bobi Wine, in a recent statement, vehemently refuted claims that his party, the National Unity Platform (NUP) is behind the organization of protests in Uganda.
As seen on his X account on Monday, July 22, 2024, Bobi Wine clarified that the protests were not orchestrated by NUP but were driven by the collective will of the people, emphasizing his unwavering support for the movement towards marching to Parliament.
March to Parliament
Bobi Wine expressed his commitment to the cause of people’s power, stating that he and his party were fully dedicated to supporting the protests as they believed in the strength of the Ugandan people.
“For the record, the 23rd July #March2Parliament protests are not organized by @NUP_Ug. But we support them with all our might because we are #PeoplePower and we absolutely believe in the Power of the People. We support every effort to protest against injustice, corruption and misrule,” Bobi stated.
In addition, Bobi criticized the current regime for attempting to discredit the genuine initiative of anti-corruption protests by falsely attributing it to NUP, aiming to undermine the movement’s credibility and portray it as a partisan agenda.
Furthermore, Bobi Wine highlighted the inclusive nature of the anti-corruption protests, noting that they were organized by young individuals across Uganda without discrimination based on age, religion, or political affiliation.

Nothing like us
He condemned the actions of the ruling regime, labelling it as a criminal entity and asserting that its deceptive tactics would ultimately be unsuccessful in frustrating the will of the people.
“The effort by the regime to clamp down and make it look like a NUP initiative is meant to weaken it because they want to make it appear like a partisan matter. The #AntiCorruptionProtests as we know them are organized by the young people of Uganda regardless of their age, religion, tribe or political affiliation! The criminal regime and its antics will certainly fail!!” Bobi noted.
Bobi’s comments come hours after he revealed that his headquarters are ‘under siege’ by armed police and military, on the eve of a planned anti-corruption march that has been banned by the authorities.
“Our headquarters are under siege by heavily armed police and the military. This was expected by the regime but we are not giving up on the struggle to liberate Uganda,” Bobi said.
