Kajiado: Police warn public against mob justice as search for serial killer intensifies

Police in Kajiado have sent a stern warning to members of the public to detest from engaging in mob justice in pursuit of suspected criminals.

This comes amid intensified search for a suspected serial killer who murdered two brothers in the Purko area, Kajiado Central in two separate incidences.

The suspect, who is on the ran, has been the subject of social media platforms in the region after he threatened to kill 10 other relatives and sympathizers of his family – a matter that has sparked uncertainty and rage among residents.

Wrangle over a disputed family land is said to have sparked the animosity which saw the suspect vow to kill his cousins whom he accused of short-changing his family.

Mob hunting suspect

Following a public alert of the suspect, members of the public have severally arrested different persons suspected to be the man on the run.

In the latest incident, a youthful man from Ngong escaped death by a whisker after members of the public who suspected him to be the man on the run pounced on him. Fortunately in the Friday evening incident, the man was positively identified by a passerby. He is now recuperating from serious injuries inflicted at a private hospital in Ngong.

At around 8 pm Friday, members of the public reached out to police after coming across a man they considered the suspect in an entertainment joint.

The man was briefly held at Kitengela police station before being transferred to Kajiado police station for identification.

The identification parade is ongoing with family members expected to turn up in the evening for the identification parade.

The late identification has been occasioned by the fact that one of the victims who was murdered two weeks ago will be laid to rest today.

Ngong, Isinya and Kajiado sub-county police commanders Joachim Mecha, Ancient Kaloki and Daudi Loronyokwe now warn members of the public to ensure they call the police when they come across suspicious characters and detest from taking the law into their hands.

One week ago, a man was lynched and burnt down in the Mashuuru area on suspicion that he was a thief.
