Village elders drawn from Gitei village in Gathanje area, Kiambu county on Friday turned up at the late Brian Chira’s home in Githunguri to perform a cleansing ritual.
This came amid concerns from the villagers over the misconduct by mourners who thronged his burial ceremony last month.
While stating that what they had witnessed was taboo, the elders agreed to convene at Chira’s home to conduct a cleansing ceremony to chase away any negative spirits left behind.
“We didn’t like the way they dressed, smoked and drank alcohol in front of us. They didn’t even respect the clergy. They were disrespecting our Kikuyu traditions, and we’ve never seen that before. They urinated everywhere. That’s not the way we were brought up.
“We’re worried about their future and how they’re going to raise their own children. It was a struggle even for the church to get access to the grave site. They don’t seem to know what they’re doing. We are calling on our village to hold a cleansing ceremony to remove any negative spirits left behind,” one of the villagers said.
During the ceremony, the elders began with prayers to seek forgiveness for what happened during the late TikToker’s funeral, they also performed cleansing rituals to clean the atmosphere and chase away any negative spirits lingering in the village.
The late TikToker who tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run accident involving a speeding lorry was laid to rest in a funeral ceremony attended by thousands of young people on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.
During the incident that led to his demise, the TikToker who was drunk was fleeing from a boda boda rider to avoid paying him when the lorry hit him.
Recalling the unfortunate incident, a witness, Zeleck Momanyi, revealed that the impact threw Chira metres ahead before the lorry ran over his body again.
“Tukaenda tukafika junction so nlikua nataka kudivert kuenda nyumbani na unfortunately Brian alikua anaenda different direction so alikua anataka kumwacha hapo lakini venye alikua mveli alisema tena naomba munisongeshe munifikishe mahali fulani, tusonge mbele kidogo. Aya nkaambia boda boda tusonge alafu turudi unipeleke home. So after tumesonga tumefika mahali alituambia, akashuka tu pikipiki and then mtu wa pikipiki kumuitisha fare akaanza tu kukimbia. Before tu asonge two steps mbele hivi ndo gari ilitokea tu ikampiga, Canter ya white ili speed off ikaenda. Alipigwa akaenda distance then gari ikamfwata mbele ikampita juu,” Momanyi said.
