Cabinet Secretary for Education, Ezekiel Machogu has announced that the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results are scheduled for release in the second week of January.
Speaking to a local media outlet, Machogu said verification processes are underway to ensure the accuracy and credibility of the results.
“We are done with the marking. What we are currently doing is compiling the marks, verification, and validation. You know it’s quite a process. So that by the end of the day, we release credible results,” Machogu stated.
Machogu also said that the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has eliminated the requirement for candidates to sit for five mandatory subjects.
This change will benefit 903,260 candidates who sat for the KCSE exams to broaden their chances of qualifying for higher education.
“Previously compulsory subjects included Mathematics, English Language, Kiswahili, and two Sciences. But this time round, we will only have two compulsory subjects that are Mathematics and English Language, Kiswahili or National Sign Language. We are doing this to allow learners to explore subjects they are good at,” he stated.
“Even the entry grade for University Education, the numbers will increase because last year we had 173,000 Kenyans out of 887,000 getting C+ and above, that is university entry which is 19 per cent,” Machogu explained.
He further highlighted that the percentage of individuals pursuing university education in neighbouring countries such as Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania is approximately 30 per cent.
