Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has urged Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to hit the gym so that he can “rid himself of his potbelly”.

Sonko and Millie Odhiambo are not new to exchanging verbal attacks in public.

The two vocal leaders in early August this year traded barbs online after the MP accused the governor of being “childish” and “insensitive” to the family of the Late Kibra MP, Ken Okoth, after Sonko revealed during a funeral service that Okoth had sired a son during an extramarital affair with city MCA Anne Thumbi.

And, what appears to be a continuation of the August 2019 attacks at each other, Millie Odhiambo, while appearing on K24’s political show Punchline on Sunday, October 13, had “unkind” words to describe the governor’s physique.

Anne Kiguta, the show host, asked the lawmaker to give her opinion on how she thinks the capital city is faring under the leadership of Mike Sonko, who, for the last two weeks, has been out of the country on tour of the Middle East and Europe.

Sonko has been posting on social media videos of him dancing, enjoying alcohol and hanging out at exquisite restaurants in the Middle East and Europe, something that Millie Odhiambo thinks is a diversionary tactic employed by the “street-smart” Mike Sonko.

“I think what Sonko is doing is to distract attention from the problems that he is facing [in running Nairobi County Government] so that we can discuss something else. Like what we are discussing now… from his pictures of trains in the foreign nations, how he is dancing… He is not even a good dancer, let us start from there,” said Millie Odhiambo.

“As a young person, what is he doing with that kind of a potbelly? He should go to the gym instead of dancing. As an elder sister, I would advise him to go to the gym… He has no business having that big potbelly as a young person,” added the Suba North lawmaker.

Kiguta chimed in suggesting that Odhiambo’s comments stemmed from a previously sour relationship the legislator and the governor had. The show host further questioned Odhiambo whether her description of Sonko as a “pot-bellied” man was triggered by a personal need to deride the governor.

“I do not degenerate to personal remarks. He is the one who started the personal attacks towards me. I do not engage in dirty verbal exchanges, but if you want me to get into the mud, I will get into it, and, thereafter, shower and shine,” she said.

Mike Sonko is yet to respond to Millie Odhiambo’s remarks, but, it is expected he will, soon.
