Willis Otieno: Raila was never at war with illusions
By Cynthia Lodite, November 10, 2025Lawyer and political commentator Willis Otieno has lashed out at select politicians whom he accuses of faking tears after the loss of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
In a post on his official X account on Monday, November 10, 2025, the lawyer revealed that Raila Odinga was never at war with illusions but instead fought the same politicians whom he accuses of faking tears before cameras after the death of Raila Odinga.

“Raila was never at war with illusions; he was fighting the same political animals now polishing their fake tears before cameras,” Willis noted.
On his part, Willis reveals how Raila fought for several politicians because of their greed, theft, and the suffocating arrogance that he firmly states led the government down.
“He fought their greed, their theft, their institutional rot, and the suffocating arrogance that turned government into a feeding trough for elites,” Willis said.
The lawyer went on accusing the sections of politicians of trying to interfere with his rallies while recalling how Raila Odinga’s supporters were tear-gassed.
“Now, as the man they demonized is laid to rest, they perform their hypocrisy in full view of the nation. Those police trucks brutalizing Gen Z today were bought to silence Raila. Those bullets tearing through young protestors were first tested on his supporters,” Willis wrote.

Raila’s legacy
His remarks closely follow the Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who stated that Raila Odinga’s influence will continue to grow even after his death.
Speaking during his visit to Raila’s grave at Opoda Farm on Thursday, November 6, 2025, Kalonzo said the late opposition leader inspired a new generation of young Kenyans who will carry on his vision for justice and democracy.
Kalonzo described Raila as a leader whose spirit will live on through the youth, particularly those who stood up to demand change.
“Raila Odinga will be more powerful in death than when he was alive because he inspired the young Kenyans; he inspired Gen Z,” Kalonzo said.
“And I remember that young girl in 2024 who said on the television, ‘Baba, baba, you have done enough; now rest, achia sisi hii kazi,’ and they did. They even went to the central business district.”
