Wednesday blackout to hit parts of 15 counties

Kenya Power has announced a major blackout expected to affect parts of 15 counties on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, October 14, the utility company said the interruption will occur due to routine maintenance works being carried out across its network.

In Nairobi, the power outage will affect several estates in South C, including Akiba Estate, Five Star Estate, Memon Estate, Halai Estate, Bellevue School, Ruby Estate, and Bandari Villas.

Other affected areas include St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church, Masjid Bukhari Mosque, Sifa Springs Estate, Tepro Homes, Missionary School, and parts of Nairobi Water. Some sections of Parklands will also be without power, particularly along Wangapala Road, Iregi Road, and sections of 4th and 5th Parklands Roads.

Residents in Kayole along Spine Road are also expected to experience the blackout. The affected areas include Komarock Primary School, parts of Komarock Phase Three, Naivas Supermarket Kayole, Co-operative Bank Kayole, Mugandi Police Station, and several nearby estates such as Saba Saba, Kioi, Nyando, and Soweto.

In Kajiado County, parts of Ngong, Vet Farm, Kangawa, Bulbul, Kerarapon, and Elpaso will be affected. Kenya Power noted that the outage will impact institutions such as St. Joseph School, Masai School, and Juanco, as well as surrounding areas.

In Machakos County, the blackout will affect industries and residential areas along Beijing Road in Katani. Among those to be affected are Allpack Industries, Blowplast, Sanden, Canon Chemicals, Greatwall Apartments, Rhombus, Katani Lounge, and EPCO.

The Central Rift region will also be hit, with power interruptions expected in parts of Nyandarua and Samburu Counties, including Rumuruti, Maralal, Suguta Marmar, Churo, and Kisima. Residents of these areas and surrounding towns such as Poror and Thome will experience power loss between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm.

In the North Rift, parts of Uasin Gishu County, such as Kapkoros Primary, Joyland Academy, Kabongo, Kaburwo, Oletebes, and Upper Elgon View will be affected.

Nandi County residents in Sigot, Cheptil, Kabiemit, Kolonget, and Kapkitui are also among those set to experience the temporary outage.

In the Mount Kenya region, Nyeri County will experience interruptions around Ndima-Ini Market, Kirimara High School, Kiangogoyo, Karindundu, and Bellevue. The blackout will also hit Gatarakwa Girls High School, Githura Market, and Mugaka.

In Embu County, areas around Gatitu, Kune, and Kageere will be affected, while in Murang’a County, Gaturi, Gitugi, and Nyakihai are among the regions that will go dark during the scheduled maintenance period.

Kiambu County residents in Ruaka Town and its environs will also be affected, including areas around Quickmart Ruaka, Kiuna Road, and Slaughter Road. Other affected sections include Ruiru Prisons, BTL Ruiru, Woodland, Little More, and Syngenta.

In the northeastern region, Garissa Town and its surroundings will experience a full-day blackout. The affected areas include the Governor’s offices, County Government offices, Garissa University, Modika Barracks, Garissa Solar Plant, and Madogo.

Kitui County residents in Mwingi and Kithyoko towns will also be without electricity for most of the day. The outage will affect Ngalange, Musavani, Kaningo, Wikithuki, Kyuso Town, Tseikuru, and surrounding villages.

At the Coast, Kilifi Town and Bofa area will be among the affected regions, while in Kwale County, residents in Mshiu, Mwangwei, Lungalunga, and the surrounding areas, including KRA Horohoro and Lungalunga Hospital, will be impacted.
