Weatherman lists areas set to receive heavy rainfall this week

The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has released its weather forecast, indicating an increased rainfall intensity in some parts of the country in the next seven days.

According to a weather forecast released by the Met department on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, heavy rains will be witnessed in the country during the week in certain areas, especially in the Central Highlands.

According to the forecast, the high rainfall intensity is expected to last from Tuesday, August 12, 2025, all the way up to Monday, August 18, 2025.

“An increase in rainfall intensity is expected in several parts of the country, with isolated storms likely—especially in the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, and North-western Kenya,” the department stated.

Additionally, intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are likely over some parts of the Rift Valley, the southeastern lowlands. On the other hand, the Met department has warned of cloudy conditions within the Central Highlands and Western Kenya regions.

“Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions may occur over parts of the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, South-eastern Lowlands, and the Rift Valley,” Met said.

Areas to expect high rainfall

On Met’s part, during daytime, rainfalls of above 30°C are highly expected in North-Eastern and North-Western Kenya. In addition, nighttime lows of below 10°C will be expected in the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and near Mt. Kilimanjaro.

“Daytime highs of above 30°C are expected in much of North-eastern and North-western Kenya, while night-time lows of below 10°C are likely in some parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and near Mt. Kilimanjaro,” Met wrote.

Similarly, strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.86 m/s) are forecasted over the Coast (including Kenya’s territorial waters), the southeastern lowlands, northeastern, and northwestern Kenya

“Strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.86 m/s) are expected over the Coast (and Kenya’s territorial waters), South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya,” Met noted.
