Wandayi declares full support for Ruto’s re-election
By Hesborn Etyang, November 10, 2025The Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum, Opiyo Wandayi, has declared that they are part of the government and will support President William Ruto’s re-election in 2027.
Wandayi made the remarks in Lodwar, Turkana, on Sunday, November 9, 2025, during stakeholder engagements ahead of the revival of the Lokichar Oil Basin project.
He said that before the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga died, he guided them on the right path for politics and development.

According to Wandayi, the late Raila emphasised the need to work with President Ruto, a position they have embraced and will continue to uphold.
“There are others still saying they will decide in 2027, but for us, we have already made the decision to work with Ruto, and in 2027 we will support him to get re-elected to finish his second term,” he said.
Wandayi praised President Ruto for fostering national unity and forming a broad-based government that brings together leaders from across the country.
“Kenya has had many presidents since independence, and only Ruto has realised the importance of uniting all leaders and ditching tribal lines. That’s why he formed a broad-based government to include leaders from across the country,” he said.

Oburu’s stand
Wandayi’s remarks came shortly after acting ODM leader Oburu Oginga stated that President Ruto does not have automatic support from the ODM party in his 2027 re-election bid.
Oburu, speaking during Raila Odinga’s memorial service at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay Town, said the party’s support for the president would depend on how he handles ODM within the current working arrangement.
“While ODM is part of the broad-based government, this does not translate to endorsing President Ruto’s 2027 re-election,” Oburu said.
“The decision on whether to support Ruto will be made in 2027 and will be informed by the manner in which the President treats ODM and its supporters.”
