Wamalwa compares Kalonzo’s Uhuru Park NDC moment to Kibaki’s 2002 rise
By Ascah Mwango, October 10, 2025Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has compared Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s endorsement at Uhuru Park to the historic 2002 transition that saw Mwai Kibaki rise to power, saying Kenya’s political history appears to be repeating itself.
In a nostalgic post shared on X on Friday, October 10, 2025, Wamalwa drew parallels between the scenes at Uhuru Park in 2002 and those witnessed during Kalonzo’s National Delegates Congress (NDC).

He said the atmosphere, emotions, and symbolism felt the same as a nation standing at the edge of change.
“History repeats itself! At Uhuru Park 2002, the incoming Government supporters gathered to witness the swearing in of President Mwai Kibaki and the winning team, and Kenyans sang Yote yawezekana bila Moi,” Wamalwa wrote.
Wamalwa suggested that Kenya is witnessing a familiar moment, one where power dynamics are shifting, and a united opposition is preparing for a new political chapter.
He likened the gathering at Uhuru Park to the one that marked the end of an era in 2002, saying the energy and message of hope were strikingly similar.

“At Kabarak, outgoing President Moi and his team landed in the afternoon in a military helicopter to start his retirement. Today at a packed Uhuru Park, the Government in waiting held a historic and nostalgic meeting to celebrate H.E @skmusyoka’s endorsement by @TheWiperParty as their 2027 Presidential candidate and reaffirmation of Opposition unity and resolve to field a single Presidential candidate against President Ruto,” he said @abel-amalaAdding;
“In the meantime, President Ruto was landing at Kabarak in a Military helicopter, to pay his last respects to the late President Moi, who refused to meet him until his death, as he received his son Gideon Moi to his Coalition on his way home to Sugoi, as the massive crowd at Uhuru Park sang Yote Yawezekana bila Gideon Moi na bila Ruto!”
Momentous occasion
Wamalwa’s comments came shortly after the Wiper Party held its NDC at Uhuru Park, where Kalonzo Musyoka was officially endorsed as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The event drew thousands of supporters, party delegates, and top opposition leaders, including Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, Fred Matiang’i, and Justin Muturi.
The gathering was filled with song, celebration, and calls for unity as Kalonzo was handed his nomination certificate.

In his acceptance speech, Kalonzo thanked party members for their confidence in him and vowed to lead a united opposition team focused on change, integrity, and economic recovery.
Kalonzo urged young people to register as voters, saying their participation would be vital in shaping Kenya’s next chapter.
“If you have not registered, I implore you to register as voters,” he said.
