Kenyan authorities on Friday deported an American national who is accused of participating in the January 6, 2021 riots in the US Capitol.
Isaac Sturgeon, 32, who was captured on video attacking police with their own metal barricades, sneaked into Kenya to avoid prosecution in the US on January 24.
Court documents in the US revealed that Sturgeon, who hails from Montana State, was deported on March 5 despite the fact that he was to leave Kenya in April.
“In January, the suspect travelled to Kenya, Africa. Thereafter, he purchased a return ticket to the United States departing on April 25, 2021. However, Kenyan authorities ordered Sturgeon deported in advance of his return ticket,” a document seen by K24 Digital read in part.
The 32-year-old was put on a flight to the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, New York where he touched down on Saturday afternoon, March 6.
He walked straight into the waiting hands of Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) officers who had been hunting him down since the chaotic US capitol breach.
FBI officers had sought the assistance of the public in identifying and capturing Sturgeon, who was recorded on video throwing barricades, with other rioters, to the Washington D.C police officers.
Police in the US said that two informants shared his details, assisting them to track him through his social media accounts.
After his arrest over the weekend, Sturgeon was on Monday arraigned in Brooklyn Federal Court in Washington D.C where he was released on a Ksh25 million bond.
He is facing seven charges, including disorderly conduct in a restricted building, physical violence and obstruction of justice.
