Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has officially acknowledged and celebrated the inclusion of the Maasai Mara National Reserve in the World Book of Records, UK.

The reserve has been recognised as the site of the “World’s Greatest Annual Terrestrial Wildlife Migration”, a major achievement for Kenya’s tourism and conservation efforts.

In her statement released on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the CS noted that the recognition marks a historic milestone for the country, describing it as a moment of great pride for the nation and the tourism sector.

She attributed the achievement to the leadership of President William Ruto, referring to him as Tourism Ambassador 001, and acknowledged his role in supporting the promotion of Kenya as a global tourism destination.

“Through the able leadership of Tourism Ambassador 001 William Ruto, I am thrilled to announce the official inclusion of the Maasai Mara National Reserve in the World Book of Records, UK, as the site of the ‘World’s Greatest Annual Terrestrial Wildlife Migration’. This recognition is a historic milestone for Kenya’s tourism and conservation sector and a moment of immense pride for our nation,” Miano said.

Miano described the Maasai Mara as a true natural wonder, hosting over 1.5 million wildebeests, zebras, and antelopes that migrate across the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem every year.

She termed the Great Migration not only as a breathtaking spectacle but also as a symbol of ecological balance, resilience, and the interdependence of nature.
