Top university set to award Kenyan athlete Beatrice Chebet
By Cynthia Lodite, November 4, 2025The University of Kabianga has nominated Kenyan medalist and world athletic champion Beatrice Chebet for a prestigious award for her contribution to global sports, particularly in long-distance running.

In a gazette notice issued on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the university confirmed that Chebet will be awarded the Honorary Doctorate Degree of Humane Letters.
“The University of Kabianga has nominated Ms. Beatrice Chebet for the award of the Honorary Doctorate Degree of Humane Letters,” read the notice in part.
The institution lauded Chebet while noting that she had demonstrated exceptional talent and discipline in sports globally, particularly in long-distance running.
Worth noting, Chebet has been on record as a double gold medalist in the 10,000-meter and 5,000-meter races of the 2024 Summer Olympics and the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
“Ms. Chebet has demonstrated exceptional talent and discipline in sports globally, particularly in long-distance running. She is a double gold medalist in the 10,000 m and 5,000 m races of the 2024 Summer Olympics and the 2025 World Athletics Championships,” Kabianga said.
Chebet’s records held
According to the institution, Chebet, who is a current world record holder, is also feted for her achievement as a role model and mentor to many for representing Kenya on numerous international platforms.

“She is also the current world record holder in the 5,000 m, 5 km road race, and 10,000 m, among many other achievements. She is a role model and a mentor to many and has represented the country on numerous international platforms,” Kabianga added.
Notably, Chebet, who hails from Saramek Village, Londiani Sub-County, Kericho County, has also been nominated for the World Athlete of the Year 2025.
The institution has confirmed that indeed her story promotes the values of hard work, resilience, excellence, ethical sportsmanship, professionalism, and patriotism.

On the other hand, according to reports, Chebet has immensely contributed to society by motivating the youth, from a young girl in rural Kenya to a world-renowned champion, serving as a powerful testament to the power of hard work, perseverance, and determination.

She has also been on record elevating Kenya’s global legacy through her historic feats, empowering women through her potential in sports.
The University of Kabianga has confirmed that Chebet will be conferred the Honorary Doctorate Degree on Friday, November 14, 2025, during the university’s 13th Graduation Ceremony.
“The conferment of the Honorary Doctorate Degree of Humane Letters is scheduled to take place during the 13th Graduation Ceremony of the University of Kabianga to be held on Friday, 14th November, 2025,” read the notice.
