Credit goes to the teachers, those were the sentiments of this year’s top pupil in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations.

Andy Michael Munyiri scored 440 marks, getting an average of 88 percent in the five subjects tested in the KCPE exam: English, Mathematics, Kiswahili, Science and Social Studies and Religious Education.

“I am very excited. I never even expected I would top in the whole country. I give credit to my teachers. They are the ones behind the preparations,” said Master Munyiri.

Master Munyiri’s mother, Ruth Wanja, told the media that she expected her son to perform exceedingly well.

Munyiri, who has already been dubbed ‘Kenya One’ was a student at Damacrest School in Kikuyu, Kiambu County.

The student said that he wants to be an automotive engineer and that he draws his inspiration and motivation from his father, who is in the marketing field.

Automotive engineering is a combination of mechanical, electrical and materials science. Engineers in this field can design new vehicles or look for ways to improve existing automotive engineering technology.
