Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi has pledged to serve the people of Bungoma without discrimination if elected as the third governor of the populous western county.

In a statement shared on his X page on Saturday, July 19, 2025, the politician vowed to lead an all-inclusive administration that caters to the needs of all nine constituencies, regardless of their social and cultural background.

“Bungoma County belongs to the people. No leader owns it. We must therefore value ALL and include ALL. From Mt Elgon, Sirisia, Kabuchai, Kimilili, Tongaren, Webuye East, Webuye West, Kanduyi to Bumula – they are the rightful owners. Our part as leaders is to serve with dignity, transparency and accountability,” a statement on X from Wanyonyi read.

“I know you come from different Saccos. I will not discriminate along tribal or religious lines. I would take you as you are, and I will work with and listen to everyone,” he said to a group convened to meet him

The Westland MP’s sentiments come a day after he opened up on his decision to enter the fray of Bungoma politics.

Speaking during a live TV interview on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the gubernatorial aspirant revealed a mix of public demand, personal conviction, and political betrayal that influenced his choice.

“I received a lot of delegation from Bungoma telling me that they would love me to be the governor of Bungoma. I listened extensively and got to a point and decided I should,” he said.

“ I went to Bungoma and met with all the MCAs and all the MPs except one, of course, and they all had the same plea. And sometimes we say the voice of the people is the voice of God. I listened and made a decision that I will go and vie for the seat in 2027,” he stated.

The legislator emphasised that he is within his constitutional and democratic rights to contest in any part of the country, including his home county of Bungoma.

Decision to vie

‘I am within my democratic right to campaign and vie in Bungoma and anywhere else because it is my right,” he said.

Further, Wanyonyi stressed that his decision to contest in Bungoma was not engineered by anyone and dismissed claims that he could be someone’s political project.

Wanyonyi also opined that he will not be rushing into party politics as he remains focused on initiating conversations with key stakeholders.

“I don’t want to rush what I have done. Now I have just come to introduce myself. I don’t want anybody to limit me. I want to engage every stakeholder of each party, and that is why I held a consultative forum with MPs and MCAs all drawn from different parties,” he said.
