The Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi on Friday, August 30, acquitted two suspects charged with terrorism-related crimes.
Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi freed the suspects due to lack of evidence that implicates them.
Sar Guracha Haro and his son, Warque Dejene Sar, were accused of blowing up two buses on the Thika Superhighway on May 4, 2014. The incident left three victims dead and at least 50 injured.
One of the explosives went off outside the Bluesprings Hotel, whereas the second blast occurred at the Kasarani underpass.
The blasts were set off in two high capacity buses.
Haro and Sar were, consequently, arrested and charged on suspicion of being behind the twin blasts.
The charge sheet further showed that the suspects were accused of soliciting and receiving Ksh85, 000 to facilitate the terror attacks.
And on Friday, Magistrate Andayi said there was no sufficient evidence implicating the two.
The suspects, who were facing ten counts of terrorism-related offences, were set free in all accusations.
Haro was, however, found guilty of threatening a witness. He told the witness: “I will kill you for testifying against my son”.
A comprehensive judgement will be delivered on September 12, when Haro will be sentenced for threatening a witness.
Haro and his son, Sar, have been in custody since May, 2014.
