Sossion: DCP–DAP-K feud shows their unity was built on hatred for Ruto

By , October 9, 2025

Former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary-General Wilson Sossion has weighed in on the ongoing political feud between the Democratic for the Citizens Party (DCP) and the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), saying their fallout exposes the fragility of alliances built on personal animosity rather than ideology.

Speaking at a local TV station on Thursday, October 9, 2025, Sossion said the public disagreements between the two parties reveal that their unity was never grounded in shared values or a coherent political agenda.

“When you look at their spat and war, it indicates that they were only cemented by a common denominator of raw hate for the person of the president,” he said.

According to Sossion, political groups that come together purely out of opposition to a particular individual or administration rarely sustain their unity.

“When political groups unite out of mere hatred without a serious agenda, obviously, you don’t expect them to get anywhere. They are already feuding about the upcoming by-elections.”

His remarks come shortly after DAP-K threatened to ditch the united opposition if the DCP party decides to field a candidate in the Malava by-election.

Speaking on the campaign trail on Wednesday, October 8, one of the DAP-K officials warned that the party would sever ties with the other outfits in the opposition if the Gachagua-led faction proceeds with fielding a candidate in the by-election.

“We hear that there is someone seeking to field a candidate in Malava, yet we have a candidate. We warn that if their candidate is going to be cleared by IEBC, then we will cut our ties and forge our path alone. I am angry that we are in a coalition and someone is bringing in a candidate to confuse us,” the official said in the presence of Eugene Wamalwa.

However, even with the DAP-K’s threat, the DCP party insists on fielding its candidate.

Edgar Busiega will be flying the DCP’s ticket against other contenders.

Also on the ballot will be the UDA party’s David Ndakwa.

In an update on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, DCP said Busiega would present his papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for clearance.

“Tomorrow … 9th October 2025, all roads lead to Malava Boys as DCP Party Candidate, Wakili Edgar Busiega Mwanga Presents his papers to IEBC,” the party indicated.
