Senator Omogeni: UDA’s conduct signals panic over likely 2027 defeat

By , August 4, 2025

Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni has claimed that the ruling United Democratic Alliance is already panicking about the 2027 election.

He said this is why Kenyans are beginning to hear strange remarks from some of their leaders.

Speaking on Monday, August 4, 2025, during a political interview with one of the local TV stations, the senator pointed at a recent statement by Tiaty MP William Kamket, who claimed that the government would rig the next general election for President William Ruto.

Rigging talk not by mistake

Omogeni said such utterances are not casual or random.

“UDA is sensing defeat, which is why we are hearing pronouncements like those from Hon. Kamket,” he said.

He described the remarks as a warning to the country and its institutions.

“Such statements should serve as a warning to the IEBC that there are people out there planning to rig the election,” he added.

Omogeni said the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission should be alert.

He urged the commission to tighten systems and prove that no one can interfere with the will of the people.

Pattern of fear and distraction

The senator also said that similar tactics have been used before in African politics.

He explained that when leaders know they are losing public trust, they try to shake confidence in the electoral process.

“This is a way of preparing the ground. If they win, they say it was fair. If they lose, they say it was stolen from them,” he said.

Omogeni believes that Kenyans are wiser now and will not fall for such games.

He called on citizens to stay alert and keep pressure on both politicians and electoral bodies to ensure a free and fair election.

He also asked civil society groups to speak up early before it is too late.

“This is the time to act. Silence now will only open the door for more dangerous plans,” he warned.

The development comes amid the backdrop of a trend where leaders who enjoy proximity to Ruto utter remarks that can trigger violence before, during and after the 2027 general election.

It remains to be seen if the NCIC will come out and do its role as far as calling leaders into order.
