‘Sasa warembo mko na bus’ – Ruto leaves students in stitches as he makes his demands
By Cynthia Lodite, November 29, 2025President William Ruto has turned a routine school launch into a moment of laughter and inspiration after he playfully asked the students to handle all homework assigned by their teachers.
Ruto made his remarks on Saturday, November 29, 2025, during the launch of Yusuf Haji Girls’ Secondary School, Ijara, in Garissa County.
At the time, the head of state who announced the school had also received a school bus asked the students to uphold discipline and hard work.
“Sasa warembo mko na bus, mko na shule, we are now going to demand of you discipline, hard work, sindio, si tumekubaliana?” Ruto said.

He went on to underscore his continued push for academic excellence while demanding that the students finish up their homework while maintaining discipline and working smart for great results.
“Nyinyi tumekubaliana mtafanya homework, sindio? Kila mmoja wenu atafanya homework? Kila mmoja wenu mtakuwa na nidhamu? Na tutakua na matokeo mazuri?” Ruto asked.

Increased Education fund
His launch of the new school comes just weeks after Ruto revealed that Kenya has increased its education funding by nearly Ksh129 billion to ensure every child in the country gets a basic education.
Speaking during an education forum on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development, in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, Ruto also noted that education models should be focused on reimagining learning to end poverty, create decent work, promote inclusion, and seize opportunities in the digital age.
”In Kenya, we have reformed our curriculum to a competency-based model, recruited more teachers to close the staffing gap, and increased education funding by nearly one billion dollars to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive,” President William Ruto said.

At the time, the Head of State further urged all stakeholders to invest their effort and resources in education to eradicate poverty.
Meanwhile, President William Ruto has often been on record assuring Kenyans that access to education will not be compromised, even as the country grapples with tough economic conditions.
“I am committed to developing the highest human capital in Kenya because no nation can develop beyond the ability and the capability of its human capital,” Ruto said while making his remarks in Ijara, Garissa County.
