Salasya vows to reject any woman who forces him to wear wedding ring

By , July 31, 2025

Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has stirred conversation online with his latest remarks about marriage traditions, specifically his strong dislike for wearing a wedding ring.

Taking to his official Instagram account on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, Salasya revealed that when he settles down in 2026, he will not tolerate any woman who insists on him wearing a ring.

The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) lawmaker, who has declared his interest in the 2027 presidential contest, argues that he has never liked rings on his fingers.

“When I start marriage life next year, aki mwanamke mwenye atanilazimisha niweke pete kwa kidole, nitamrudisha kwao,” he declared, adding, “I don’t know why sipendi pete kwa kidole yangu ama sijai tamani.”

Loosely translated as “When I begin marriage life next year, honestly, any woman who tries to force me to wear a ring on my finger—I’ll return her to her parents,” he declared, adding, “I don’t know why, but I just don’t like wearing a ring on my finger, or maybe I’ve never even desired it.”

Wedding rings

Wedding rings are widely seen as symbols of love and fidelity, but Salasya’s stance suggests he prioritises personal comfort and autonomy over conventional expectations.

Despite the bold statement, the first-time MP remains one of the most outspoken and unpredictable young leaders in Kenyan politics, often capturing national attention with his unfiltered commentary.

Salasya’s marriage plans

In June 2025, Salasya announced plans to marry in 2026, just a year before the next general elections in which he will be seeking a presidential seat.

In a candid and humorous statement made via his official Instagram account in the wee hours of Sunday, June 29, 2025, the youthful legislator opened up about the loneliness that comes with public life, declaring his firm intention to settle down next year.

According to Salasya, every man deserves a woman, no matter how influential they can be.

Incomplete man

The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) first-term MP argues that he also reaches a point where he feels incomplete without a woman.

“No matter how influential you are, every man deserves a woman in life … Inafikanga mahali pia mimi hufeel I am lacking that woman to be next to me at night 😄 🤣 😂. I must marry next year now, maisha si poa; it’s lonely here,” Salasya stated.
