By , July 20, 2025

Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya, who has declared his intention to run for the presidency in 2027, has stated that he is the only presidential hopeful who has toured the entire country while making a prediction on those expected to square off in the ballot.

In a post made on his X account on Sunday, July 20, 2025, Salasya listed individuals he believes will appear on the presidential ballot come 2027. The list includes himself, former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, President William Ruto, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and former Chief Justice David Maraga.

He also included a remark that “other jokers” may join the race.

Salasya went on to assert that, as of now, no other candidate has traversed the country as extensively as he has.

“I predict the following candidates will be on the presidential ballot come 2027: Salasya Matiang’i, Rigathi Ruto, Kalonzo Maraga. And other jokers I am sure as of now no single candidate has traversed this country the way I have done.” Salasya said.

Countrywide tour

This comes days after the Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya embarked on an expansive countrywide tour, explicitly emphasising in-person engagement over social media popularity as the cornerstone of his 2027 presidential ambition.

Taking to his official X account on Friday, July 18, 2025, Salasya said that he does not want to be popular on social media like other presidential aspirants, adding that he will continue with his grassroots engagement.

“I don’t want to be popular on social media like other presidential aspirants, e.g., … but I want to be popular on the ground. Pk Kenneth was popular on social media but only got 72k votes. Let me continue with my tours countrywide,” he said.

Presidential ambitions

His presidential countrywide tour comes after Salasya, on Monday, April 28, 2025, made official his plans to run for the country’s topmost job in the 2027 general elections.

In a lengthy post on Instagram, the young parliamentarian shared that he had arrived at this decision after wide and careful consultations, insisting that he was now certain about directing his energy to battle for the major seat.

According to him, the decision was also largely fuelled by the current state of political turmoil in the country, and it was key that he run to try and give the country a change in leadership.
