Salasya: I will beat Raila in 2027

By , July 26, 2025

Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has launched a scathing attack on ODM party leader Raila Odinga if he contests in the 2027 General Election.

In a fiery statement posted on his official X account on Friday, July 26, 2025, Salasya accused Raila and Edwin Sifuna of pretending to be in opposition while secretly working with the government. He further claimed that Sifuna had been planted to kill the momentum of opposition politics.

“I will beat Raila on the ballot come 2027 ata afanye Sifuna running mate wake,” Salasya wrote.

The youthful MP dismissed Sifuna as untrustworthy, accusing him of serving both Raila and President William Ruto.

“Guys, I told you, don’t trust Sifuna on anything. He was sent to kill the momentum by Raila and Ruto. He is now the agent of conclave dialogue,” Salasya said.

He further stated that he had mastered the political tricks used by seasoned leaders like Raila and Sifuna.

“Peter Salasya has mastered all the tricks of pretenders like Raila and Sifuna. I read politics from afar. Raila will be on the ballot again to confuse Kenyans so that he enters into another handshake,” he added.

Salasya urged Kenyans not to take Sifuna seriously unless he publicly denounces Raila Odinga as his political mentor.

“Let us stop taking Sifuna seriously until the day he will denounce Raila kama babake wa kisiasa. Let us ignore Sifuna the way you ignored Raila. Raila is a common man who speaks with Sifuna and eats with Junet,” Salasya stated.

Gachagua dismissed

Salasya’s remarks come just days after Sifuna, during an interview on a local TV station on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, suggested that Raila Odinga could still be on the presidential ballot in 2027.

Sifuna argued that the political landscape in the country is likely to change significantly before the next election. He pointed to the growing fallout between President William Ruto and his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, as a possible advantage for ODM and Raila.

“Former DP Gachagua is impeached; he cannot run. I do not understand why people talk about him as a viable candidate,” Sifuna said during the interview.

He further explained that Gachagua’s recent political moves could weaken Ruto’s support in the Mt Kenya region, which played a crucial role in his 2022 win.

“The value proposition for Gachagua for me, from an ODM perspective, is that he is taking away votes that helped beat us in 2022. For as long as he is taking away votes from Ruto, I don’t care where he takes them; he is not giving William Ruto,” Sifuna noted.

According to Sifuna, Raila stands a high chance of winning in 2027 if the voting patterns from 2022 remain the same and Ruto loses support in Mt Kenya.

“If Raila Odinga were to get the same number of votes that he got in 2022 in 2027 and William Ruto loses Mt Kenya, Raila will be president. That is how I see it as SG,” Sifuna said.
