Saitabao Ole Kanchory: Kenya needs presidency reshuffle, not cabinet

By , October 25, 2025

Lawyer and political strategist Saitabao Ole Kanchory has downplayed the anticipated Cabinet reshuffle, insisting that Kenya’s challenges stem from the presidency rather than the composition of the Cabinet.

In a statement on his X account on Friday, October 24, 2025, Kanchory said the country has witnessed numerous Cabinet reshuffles in the past, yet none have led to real change in governance or improved service delivery.

“We’ve already had far too many Cabinet reshuffles without any meaningful change. A reshuffle in the presidency is what we need RUTO IS NOT AN OPTION,” Kanchory declared.

His comments come as speculation grows that President William Ruto is planning another Cabinet reshuffle, his fourth since taking office.

Reports indicate the changes are part of a wider plan to strengthen his political base ahead of the 2027 elections.

The reshuffle may be so as to accommodate Gideon Moi’s KANU party, following Ruto and Moi’s recent agreement to work together.

At the same time, discussions between UDA and ODM leaders have intensified since the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. There has been talk of forming a political partnership or coalition, possibly under the Kenya Kwanza umbrella.

Some analysts believe bringing ODM on board could help stabilise regions that traditionally supported the opposition, while ODM insiders say such cooperation would ensure Raila’s legacy continues to shape government policy.

However, not all ODM leaders support the idea.

“ODM must not be swallowed by UDA. If there is to be cooperation, it must be structured, principled, and respectful of ODM’s identity,” Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo warned.

Within the party, sharp divisions have emerged. Younger leaders such as Babu Owino and Edwin Sifuna insist ODM should rebuild from within instead of merging with the ruling party.

“Our focus should be to keep Raila’s vision alive,” Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna said.

Adding;

“ODM must evolve, but we cannot trade principles for convenience.”

The ODM Central Committee is expected to meet in Kisumu next week to discuss possible alliances and chart the party’s path ahead of the 2027 elections.
