Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has urged President William Ruto to take a two-week break from his official duties.
In a statement on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, Amisi suggested that the president should take a holiday somewhere in the Caribbean to rejuvenate and reflect on his leadership as the country’s head of State.
He went on to add that Ruto while having his alone time should also reminisce about election campaign season and how he presented himself.
“Dear brother Dr. William Ruto, you need a holiday of two weeks minimum somewhere in the Caribbean alone, to recalibrate, rejuvenate, and ask yourself if you seriously had any agenda for this country when you presented yourself for election or if it was just to have the title, Mr President,”Amisi wrote via his X official account.
Amisi on Ruto’s broad-based government
The vocal legislature further added his weight to the ongoing debate about the inclusion of former president Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s allies in Ruto’s cabinet.
According to Amisi, Ruto has hurt the feelings of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) diehard fans by including people who opposed his election manifestos.
In addition, the ODM lawmaker questions whether Ruto will be able to deliver his promises to Kenyans while working with the opposers of his presidency.
“When you win an election and half of your cabinet are people who opposed your election manifestos, Oparanya, Joho, Mbadi, Opiyo, Kabogo, Kinyanjui, Kagwe, and Muturi, while the other half are yet to reconcile with their conscience on why they were selected? How does a UDA diehard from across the country feel? Which promises can you deliver with opposers to your election running your government? and what does it portend to your presidency?” he added.
Amisi noted that the formation broad-based government is the complete opposite of the coalition government which allowed parties that had different ideologies during the campaign season to reconcile after elections and share government proportionately adding that Ruto has been rewarding jobs to politicians from the opposition without the parties’ reconciliation.
He further added that the inclusion is violating the country’s democracy.
“In a coalition government, parties reconcile their differing policies and share government proportionately. In this case, you run helter-skelter looking for anyone around the streets jobless and able to camouflage as a power-balancing pawn.
“This is not democracy anymore, this is a theatre of the absurd! Kenya needs a Renaissance!” he stated.
Ruto has included politicians from the ODM and nominated Jubilee politicians with some who have served as Cabinet Secretaries from Uhuru’s cabinet and to his cabinet.
