Ruto urges fans to follow CAF rules ahead of Kenya-Zambia clash
By William Muthama, August 15, 2025President William Ruto has called on Kenyans to observe discipline and abide by Confederation of African Football (CAF) regulations during the much-anticipated match between Kenya and Zambia at Kasarani Stadium on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
Speaking on Friday, August 15, 2025, when hosting leaders from Kisii and Nyamira counties, Ruto appealed to fans to avoid actions that could disrupt the game or jeopardise Kenya’s standing in continental football.
“On Sunday, we have a match between Kenya and Zambia at Kasarani. I ask Kenyans, let’s not cause distractions. Let’s ensure we follow the procedures and the CAF rules,” Ruto said.
He assured Kenyans that the national team, Harambee Stars, had prepared adequately and had the potential to secure victory. The president also stressed that maintaining a good reputation on and off the pitch was essential.

“This is important so that we can continue our football game in a fair and safe way. Let’s make sure we build our nation’s reputation as a country that knows how to play football fairly and with respect,” he added.
Official Fan Zones
To manage crowds and prevent overcrowding, Ruto announced the creation of six official fan zones across Nairobi for supporters without tickets. These zones will be equipped with large screens and security to ensure safe public viewing.
The designated locations include Uhuru Park, Lucky Summer (Ngomongo Area, behind Kasarani Stadium), Dandora Stadium, Utalii (Stima Club), Jacaranda Grounds, and Kibera DC Grounds.
“I want to tell all fans, including the people of Kenya, that you have done a tremendous job supporting and cheering Harambee Stars. But we have to do it within the parameters allowed by CAF. Those with tickets must be orderly, and those without can enjoy the match from the fan zones,” he said.
The Kenya–Zambia game is scheduled to kick off at 3 pm EAT at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani. It is seen as a crucial test for Harambee Stars as they seek to maintain their momentum in the continental competition.
