Ruto lauds police efforts in maintaining peace and protecting property
By Kenneth Mwenda, June 24, 2025President William Ruto has expressed pride in the efforts of Kenya’s security agencies, praising their role in maintaining peace and protecting the lives and property of citizens.
Speaking during an event at State House, on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, attended by top security officials, the President acknowledged the sacrifices made by officers across the country and assured them that his administration is committed to improving their welfare.
“To our policemen and women, I want to say, as President, I am very proud of what our security agencies have been able to do to secure our nation, protect our properties, and ensure that our families can sleep in peace,” said Ruto.
He revealed that one of his first priorities upon assuming office was to review the terms of service and remuneration for officers in the Kenya Police Service, Kenya Prisons Service, National Youth Service (NYS), and other uniformed personnel.
“It is the reason why, among my first assignments, was to look at the terms of service and the emoluments of our police officers, prison officers, NYS personnel, and other security officers in that space,” he said.
Support for Police
The head of state also emphasised the need for a reciprocal relationship between the government and its security forces, noting that officers must be supported after dedicating themselves to serving the country.
“It is also the reason why I have taken the firm position that we must look after our policemen and women after they look after us. We are making steady progress in improving their terms of service.”
His remarks come amid ongoing public discourse on the role and conduct of security agencies, particularly in relation to how they manage protests and enforce law and order.
