President William Ruto has outlined three key reasons why residents of Ukambani should trust his leadership.

Speaking during a media engagement at Kitui State Lodge on Thursday, November 13, 2025, he highlighted his government’s achievements in housing, healthcare, and the economy as proof of his commitment to delivering on promises.

A journalist asked, “Naomba nikuulize swali moja. Serikali ambazo zimepita zimekua zikipeana promises za maji, maji, maji. Kwa nini tukuamini wakati huu?”

Housing

Ruto began by addressing the housing programme, emphasising that his administration has made significant progress in a sector that has been part of Kenya’s manifesto since 1963.

“Itabidi mumeniamini. Wacha nikupe sababu tatu kwa nini mniamini. Mimi nilisema kwa mfano, ya kwamba nitafanya programu ya housing. Leo nikiongea na wewe madam, na serikali mingi zilisema. Manifesto ya housing imekua since 1963. Leo ndio programme ya housing inaonekana Kenya mzima. We have 230,000 housing units going on,” he said.

The president noted that the programme has already begun, demonstrating tangible results for ordinary Kenyans.

Healthcare improvement

The second reason Ruto gave focused on healthcare. For many years, he said, Kenyans struggled to meet medical costs, often selling livestock, land, or other property to pay hospital bills.

“Niliwaambia Wakenya, nitabadilisha maneno ama mfumo wa matibabu Kenya. For a long time, Wakenya wengi walikuwa wanahangaika. Mtu alikuenda anauza ng’ombe, anauza ploti yake, anauza mali yake kulipa gharama ya hospitali. Today we have rolled out a comprehensive programme ya SHA.

“Testimonies around Kenya – you can hear them everywhere – and it is just one year of implementation,” he explained. Ruto said that the Social Health Authority programme is already easing access to medical care across the country.

Economic stabilization

Finally, Ruto highlighted his government’s work in stabilising the economy. He said that when he took office, Kenya faced high inflation and fears of default.

“Let me give you a final reason why you should believe what I am saying. I told the people of Kenya that I am going to work on the economy. Mimi nilipata uchumi…dola ilikua imefika 167. Ile kitu inaitwa inflation ilikua 9.6 per cent. In three years, we have stabilised the economy.

Many people expected Kenyans to default on their obligations. I committed to this country that Kenya will not default. We have reduced inflation sasa iko 4.5. When I tell you it is doable, it will happen. We are going to match what we are saying with what we are doing,” he said.

Ruto concluded that these three areas, housing, healthcare, and economic management, provide concrete reasons for Ukambani residents to trust in his leadership and his promises for the future.
