Qatar Airways has announced the resumption of scheduled flights to Tanzania with effect from June 16, according to The Citizen.
The airline in a statement released this week said that Dar es Salaam will be its first destination in Africa to carry on programmed services.
“Qatar Airways is excited to announce the resumption of scheduled flights to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 16 June. One of the largest cities in Africa, Dar Es Salaam is a key trade and tourism hub in East Africa,” said the airline.
The airline will have three weekly flights operated by Airbus A320.
“During the Covid-19 crisis, we have become the largest global carrier flying over 50 million kilometers to repatriate over 1.5 million passengers on nearly 15,000 flights. This has enabled us to accumulate unrivaled experience of how to safely and reliably carry passengers during these uncertain times,” said Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Akbar al-Baker.
Al-Baker said that they have enhanced its onboard safety measures for passengers and cabin crew.
“We have introduced personal protective equipment suits for cabin crew while onboard and service that reduces interactions between passengers and crew,” said the airline.
The Tanzanian ban on passenger flights was announced on April 11 but the order was lifted on May 18 when the government reopened its air space.
