Poghisio explains possible outcome if 2027 poll is held today

By , August 8, 2025

Former West Pokot Senator and Majority Leader Samuel Poghisio has said the 2027 poll outcome would be different if the poll were conducted today.

Speaking to K24 TV on Friday, August 8, 2025, Poghisio admitted that Ruto is facing intense pressure from various sectors of the population. He said the mood across the country has shifted, and even the president and his advisors are aware of it.

“I agree with Arap Kirwa, in a way, if elections were to be held today, there would be a different result, even the president and his advisors know that,” he said.

Poghisio noted that Kenyans are becoming more critical of their leaders, particularly on matters affecting daily life. He added that this growing scrutiny is shaping political strategies ahead of the next general election.

Pressure on the presidency

According to Poghisio, the president is working hard to address concerns but is still struggling to manage certain sectors of the population.

The same, he said, applies to Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who also faces mounting political challenges.

“Everyone is working for 2027 to preserve their jobs,” Poghisio said, explaining that the political environment is already charged with early campaigns and manoeuvres.

He pointed out that the public mood is playing a key role in how leaders position themselves.

“The ground is pushing the Head of State to kind of protect his job,” he observed, suggesting that the pressure could influence government priorities in the coming months.

The one-term slogan

Poghisio also mentioned that the “one-term” chants being heard in some parts of the country are adding to the political tension.

While he did not predict specific outcomes, he emphasised that public perception will be a major factor in the next election.

Political analysts say Poghisio’s remarks reflect a growing acknowledgement among politicians that 2027 could bring surprises if current trends continue.

They note that early engagement with voters and addressing their grievances may be crucial for any candidate hoping to secure victory.
