The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has issued a statement following a fire alarm incident at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Sunday, July 20, 2025.

According to KAA, the fire alarm system was activated at 14:55 hours in the Terminal 1C Check-In area, prompting an immediate response from the airport’s fire and rescue team.

“At 14:55 hours today, the fire alarm system at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Terminal 1C Check-In area was activated. The airport’s Fire and Rescue fighting team promptly responded to the situation.” KAA said in a statement.

While the alarm was initially silenced, it continued to be reactivated, prompting the temporary shutdown of the fire alarm system for further investigation.

Although the alarm was initially silenced, it kept reactivating, leading to the decision to temporarily shut down the fire alarm system for further inspection. As a safety measure, Terminal 1C was evacuated to allow thorough investigations and ensure the well-being of passengers and operational staff.

In response to the situation, KAA further states that all flights originally scheduled to depart from Terminal 1C were smoothly redirected to Terminal 1A and Terminal 1B. There were no interruptions to flight operations, and activities at JKIA continued as normal.

“All flights scheduled for Terminal 1C have been seamlessly relocated to Terminal 1A and Terminal 1B, with no disruptions to flight operations. JKIA’s operations remain normal, and teams are on-site working to resolve the issue.” They stated.

“Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines for any updates regarding terminal assignments. The airport management assures the public that safety remains a top priority and appreciates the cooperation of all stakeholders during this time.” They added.

KAA emphasised that maintaining safety at all times is their priority and thanked all passengers and stakeholders for their cooperation during the incident.
