Busia County Senator Okiya Omtatah has urged political leaders to stop early campaigns and get to work.

Taking to his official X account on Friday, August 30, 2024, Omtatah said leaders should at this time set aside their political differences and strive to serve the people of Kenya.

Omtatah on leaders’ mandate

The politician-cum activist argues that the leaders should start spending more time in their offices sorting out problems affecting Kenyans, other than moving around the country on top of their vehicles campaigning.

“We are just 2 years into this KK (Kenya Kwanza) administration. In these pivotal times, it is essential for leaders to set aside political differences and concentrate on their primary mandate: serving the people of Kenya.

“Get off the rooftops of your fuel guzzlers and spend time in your office and work; sort out the problems that are affecting Mwananchi,” Omtatah stated.

Service delivery

Omtatah went ahead to note that political leaders should be focusing on delivering tangible results and fostering an improved economy.

He wants the elected leaders to prioritise issues such as dealing with corruption, theft of public funds, completing pending projects, and paying pending bills.

Omtatah further urged the leaders to turn their focus on service delivery and economic growth, stating that political campaigns would have their time later.

“The focus should be on delivering tangible results and fostering an improved economy that benefits all citizens. Deal with rampant corruption and theft of public funds, complete pending projects, and pay pending bills.

“Political campaigns will have their time, but now is the moment for commitment to the people’s needs. Prioritizing service delivery and economic growth is crucial to meet the expectations of the public and drive the nation forward,” Omtatah said.

Ruto’s development tours

Omtatah’s remarks come amid President William Ruto’s development tour of the Nyanza region, which is set to end on Saturday, August 31, 2024.

Ruto has been traversing the country in development tours that have seen him make several promises while atop his vehicle in roadside rallies.

His Nyanza development tour precedes his tours of Kakamega and Nandi Counties, where he launched several projects.

Today Friday, August 30, 2024, which marks his third day in Nyanza, President Ruto is in Siaya County where he will commission the Mageta Island Solar PV Mini Grid and launch the Siaya ESP Market and the Siaya Rice Mill.

He will close his tour in Siaya by attending a thanksgiving service for the newly-appointed Cabinet Secretary of Energy and Petroleum, Opiyo Wandayi.

The President will close his Nyanza tour on Saturday by commissioning the Nyabondo Trauma Centre in Kisumu.
