Oginde blames voters for electing corrupt leaders despite EACC warnings
By Cynthia Lodite, August 8, 2025Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Chairperson Bishop David Oginde has hit out at Kenyans for turning a blind eye to corrupt leaders during elections, despite the Commission’s efforts to expose and prosecute corrupt leaders.
According to Bishop Oginde, Kenyan voters have been enablers of corruption by voting in corrupt leaders even after the EACC has outlined their characters and even prosecuted them.
Bishop Oginde, who was speaking at a radio interview on Friday, August 2025, further acknowledged that EACC can not stop Kenyans from voting corrupt leaders back, adding that their role is to present corrupt leaders to the authorities.
“What do you want EACC to do? Go and stop them from voting? EACC has already said this person is corrupt, taken them to court, and perhaps even prosecuted them or has an ongoing case,” Oginde said.
On his part, the EACC boss called out Kenyans for blaming EACC for watching corrupt leaders take the lead in government offices. He further questioned the logic of blaming EACC for corruption levels when citizens continue to vote for the very individuals the Commission has flagged.
“Yet they go around, find their name on the ballot, and you still go ahead and vote for them. Then you turn around and blame EACC? It doesn’t make logical sense,” Oginde said.

Likewise, Oginde also explained how much Kenyans prefer corrupt leaders, comparing himself to corrupt leaders who go through with the elections and end up assuming office.
“Kenyans love corrupt people. I go to the ballot today, I will get two or three votes, I imagine, but a corrupt person goes into the ballot and they win elections,” Oginde said.
Bishop Oginde’s viral prayer
Oginde’s remarks sparked one week after he went viral following a fierce and rare prayer he made at State House, Nairobi on Wednesday, August 30, 2025.
At the time, the EACC boss made the prayer during the Assent to the Conflict of Interest Bill, 2023 and the Social Protection Bill, 2025, at State House, an event chaired by President William Ruto.
He fiercely prayed against the cancer of corruption in Kenya, a cancer that the prayer stopped short of laying at the door of political leaders, in his prayer, he referred to biblical figures.
“You are the same God when Ananias and Saphira conspired to circumvent what had been put in place by leaders, your judgment came upon them and they dropped dead in the presence of many people,” he added.
