Obama reacts to shooting of Trump ally Charlie Kirk

By , September 11, 2025

Former United States of America President Barack Obama has condemned the shooting of President Donald Trump’s buddy, Charlie Kirk, at a live campus event.

The former US president took to his official X account moments after the news of Charlie Kirk’s death was confirmed by President Donald Trump on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

On his part, Obama, who condemned his shooting, termed it as despicable violence that has no place in the US democracy.

“We don’t yet know what motivated the person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk, but this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy,” Obama wrote.

Notably, Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist who was shot in the neck on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, leaves behind his wife and two young children.

“Michelle and I will be praying for Charlie’s family tonight, especially his wife, Erika, and their two young children,” Obama wrote.

Trump confirms Charles Kirk’s death

Obama’s post on X follows President Donald Trump’s where he confirmed Kirk’s death in a post on Truth Social. Likewise Utah House Speaker Mike Schultz previously said that Kirk’s death was confirmed to him by Utah law enforcement officials.

“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,” the president wrote on Truth Social. “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie.”

Notably, Kirk, a friend and huge supporter of Trump, was the founder of Turning Point USA, a group that seeks to spread conservative ideas to students on US campuses.

At a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Gov. Spencer Cox said law enforcement has a “person of interest” in custody.

At the time, according to Beau Mason, Utah’s commissioner of public safety, it’s possible the shot that killed Kirk was fired from the roof.

Cox called Kirk’s killing a “political assassination.”

“I want to be very clear this is a political assassination,” Cox said.

Law enforcement officials said a manhunt is underway for the suspect.

After the shooting, SWAT teams, ATF Police and other law enforcement agencies evacuated and locked down the UVU campus and conducted a manhunt for the shooter.
