Nelson Havi mourns the death of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu

By , September 9, 2025

Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, mourned the death of city lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu.

Through his X handle, Havi said that Mbobu taught him Evidence and International Law.

“He chaired our homeowners committee in Onyonka Estate. A good man, a wonderful teacher, and a civil adversary in Court. Cursed are his killers. May they never have peace in the remainder of their wretched lives,” Nelson Havi wrote.

How Kyalo Mbobu died

Kyalo Mbobu was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Nairobi’s Karen South area on the evening of September 9, 2025.

Witnesses said he was driving along Langata Road near the Galleria Brookhouse estate when assailants on a motorcycle pulled up and opened fire.

The attackers fled immediately, leaving Mbobu fatally wounded. The police have launched investigations, but no arrests have been made.

The killing of Kyalo Mbobu shocked Kenya’s legal fraternity. He was a respected advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a former Chairperson of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal.

His death has raised concerns about targeted attacks on lawyers involved in sensitive political and commercial matters.

Mbobu legal legacy

Mbobu ran Kyalo and Associates Advocates and had more than two decades of experience in legal practice.

He represented clients in high-value disputes, including land, commercial, and constitutional cases.

He authored the book The Law and Practice of Evidence in Kenya, widely used by students, practitioners, and judges. His teaching influenced a generation of lawyers, including Nelson Havi.

Tributes poured in across social media, with colleagues and students calling for justice and swift action from law enforcement.
