Natembeya declares showdown against Ruto in 2027 polls
By K24 Digital Reporter, October 3, 2025Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has declared that he has the potential to unseat President William Ruto, should the united opposition leaders settle on him as their fly bearer in the 2027 General elections.
This comes amid growing speculation on the future of the anti-Ruto team, who are yet to deliberate on the individual who will contest against the broad-based honchos in the upcoming polls.
Natembeya had earlier ruled out the possibility of ever working with Ruto.
Speaking on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Bwayi village in Kwanza Constituency, Natembeya argued that although he does not have sufficient resources to run for the President of Kenya, he enjoys the backing of over 5 million voters from the vote-rich Western region and other parts of the country.
“The curse of the President being either a Kikuyu or Kalenjin will be broken by a Luhya in 2027. After breaking the sequence, I will have opened opportunities to other communities, including the Turkana, Boranas, Rendile, and even Kenyan Somalis,” Natembeya stated.
He exuded confidence that the opposition has the wherewithal to take over government in 2027, urging its bigwigs to solidify manifestos that will make real change to the electorate.
“My people, when we say Tawe, we mean no to poverty, dependency mentality, and slavery. If you believe in our course, then you should stand with me as your leader,” Natembeya urged them.

Who will lead opposition?
In what appears to be a growing tension in the United opposition, Natembeya’s remarks come after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had declared that he is the sole opposition leader capable of unseating Ruto.
“I have come home to say that I have accepted to vie for the presidency of the Republic of Kenya. Kenyans have looked and said the only leader who can remove Ruto from office is Riggy G, and I have come home to seek your blessings,” Gachagua said.
At the same time, Natembeya expressed his disappointment over the low turnout of new voters, where he revealed that so far, less than 100 voters have been registered in the five constituencies in Trans Nzoia.
“My people, I cried when I saw statistics of the number of people who have so far registered in our County. Do you know that in the whole of Trans Nzoia, only 71 people have been registered? Again, do you know that in the whole Kwanza Constituency where we are, just four people have been registered?” he posed.
He urged Gen Zs to take advantage of the continuous voter registration to register as voters.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) targets to register at least 11,000 new voters in Trans Nzoia before the rollout of the enhanced continuous voter registration.
