Morara: Teach voters to reject tribalism and corruption or we all suffer

By , August 1, 2025

Political activist and civic educator Morara Kebaso has issued a passionate call to action, urging Kenyans to embrace civic education as the key to transforming the country’s governance and ending cycles of poor leadership.

In a video shared on his X account on Thursday, July 31, 2025, Kebaso emphasised that Kenya’s future depends heavily on how informed voters are.

“Vile mmeelewa na venye mmeona, the change of our country is dependent on civic education. It is dependent on how well the voters can make their decisions,” he said.

Consequences of tribalism

He stressed that citizens must be taught the direct consequences of tribalism, corruption, and misuse of public funds—factors he says have led to widespread poverty and bad governance.

He challenged fellow citizens to stop watching silently as leaders manipulate ethnic divisions and misuse resources, urging instead for active engagement in educating communities at the grassroots level.

According to Kebaso, civic education is not just about voter registration or elections—it is a lifelong process of empowering citizens to make decisions that uphold integrity, justice, and accountability.

“Kwa hivo mimi na wewe, if we don’t go out there and teach the people that tribalism brings poverty and bad governance, if we don’t go out there and show the people how their public funds are used, if we don’t go out there and teach them the effects of celebrating or tolerating corruption, hawa watu hawawezi elewa, and they will end up making the same wrong choices, and my life and your life and their life will be affected,” Kebaso said.

His message comes at a time of growing public concern over political accountability, misuse of public funds, and the persistent influence of tribal politics in Kenya’s electoral cycles.

Kebaso has become known for using digital platforms to promote governance awareness and citizen responsibility.
