Mathioya MP: We cannot elect a govt and walk away from it

By , July 22, 2025

Mathioya Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Edwin Gichuki Mugo has strongly defended his continued support for President William Ruto’s government, stressing that it would be meaningless for the people of Mathioya to have voted overwhelmingly for the current administration only to abandon it midway.

Speaking at the Mathioya Technical College on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, he said his loyalty to the government of the day is rooted in his commitment to ensure that Mathioya residents receive their rightful share of national development.

He said that it was also wise for other political leaders in the region to set aside endless politicking and prioritise service delivery.

“For now, let the leaders stop politicking and work for the people. We cannot continue politicking, and I will continue pushing the government because Mathioya residents came out in large numbers and elected this government. It cannot be so that we elect a government and walk away from it,” Mugo stated firmly.

He insisted that his role as an elected leader is not to indulge in political wrangles but to secure tangible projects that will benefit his constituency before the current government’s term expires.

Mugo noted that there are only two years left before the 2027 general elections, which means leaders must focus on maximising development opportunities.

He underscored that his strategy is to leverage the government’s policies to ensure that Mathioya is not left behind.

“We will make sure until the last minute that Mathioya gets their share in this current government,” he said, adding that the constituency must capitalise on its overwhelming support for the administration during the last election to demand results.

Development projects

On the same occasion, the MP highlighted several key projects he is championing in line with President Ruto’s development agenda.

These include the construction of affordable hostels for students, the establishment of a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Mathioya, and the implementation of affordable housing projects to address the housing challenges facing residents.

He also confirmed that plans are underway to set up a Huduma Centre and a court of law in Kiriaini, which he said will bring essential services closer to the people.

“Because I am in government, we will also have a Huduma Centre and a court of law here in Mathioya, in Kiriaini. I am in government to make sure our county is modernised,” Mugo explained, emphasising that his support for the current administration is not about politics but about unlocking opportunities for development.
